Why Does My Air Conditioner Keep Turning On and Off?

During a hot August afternoon in Branson, your air conditioner may run for long stretches. That is normal when the outdoor temperature climbs.

What is not normal is an AC system that starts, runs for a minute or two, shuts off, and then starts again. This problem is called short cycling.

Short cycling prevents your air conditioner from completing a normal cooling cycle. It can leave your home uncomfortable, increase electricity use, and place added strain on expensive system components.

How Long Should an Air Conditioner Run?
